I’m a smart-ass on the
airwaves, too. Since returning to Southern Oregon I’ve developed a
relationship, of sorts, with a local radio DJ; Brian (and Shannon!) host a morning program on 105.1F.M. the Wolf, a CW station, to which my dial
is usually tuned. I blame BC because Classic Rock isn’t her cup of tea, but it's the
only way I get any exercise. Just can’t
help two-steppin’ from time to time.
This morning Brian asked
listeners to fill in the blank: “I’m all
growed up, but still have my __________ from childhood.”
The first time I called the
station was in response to a discussion of Man-Caves last fall, and what women
would like in theirs. Quilt racks and
bouffant chairs; a big screen TV with pink remote. I couldn’t stand it. I called and said I’d decorate mine in red,
black and purple, hang my assortment of western tack and G-strings which no
longer fit, and threw in a poster of Fabio for good measure. Ladies, I beseeched, think outside of the
box.
He played it in its entirety, and the calls got more interesting. The next time was, “What do you
absolutely refuse to pay for?”
Luggage fees and premium
gas; again, I called, “…any more ex-husbands.”
They liked that one,
too. I met Brian at a charity event, so
now if I call at least he doesn’t think I’m a telephone stalker. I just can't let some things pass by. Following assorted stuffed animals, my response this morning was...
“...my Matchbox cars from the ‘60s.” Really? “Yeah, I know, most girls play
with dolls, but I loved playin’ with my Matchbox cars.”
My quote
immediately followed the woman who, with her high pitched voice, claimed she’s
kept all her Barbies, also from the ‘60s.
Her voice suited her collection.
You know how it is when you
hear your own voice; I stared at the radio as my words were spoken by a
stranger. Mentally comparing Barbie’s voice
to mine, I couldn’t believe how husky I sounded; the only thing really giving
away that I'm a female was the “most girls play with” part. Think they deliberately added it for clarification?
They just played it
again, adding,
“Sounds like a cool chick.” Thanks, guys, and "Happy Trails to You!"
