I am all for economic equality, I think that's been clear. I also support President Biden as our Commander in Chief, who deserves everyone's respect - for the office if nothing else.
But this $10,000 giveaway doesn't seem fair on a number of fronts. What about those who just finished paying off their loans? Shouldn't they also get $10,000 to help pay off THEIR credit cards? What about those who are about to attend college - do they get $10,000, too? What about people smart enough to teach themselves skills and start a business? What about everybody else who couldn't get a loan and had to work their way through college (like me) - not everyone qualifies?
I once posted an idea of giving every child born in the U.S. a government-sponsored savings account, which families can add to (but not withdraw) until they're old enough for college, trade school or starting a business. I think most people would agree that it's easier to save if there's a decent nest egg to begin. If it's not used by the time they're 25 or 30; then the initial deposit is reimbursed to the government; let the kids keep the interest.
That sounds fair to me, and gives everyone an equal opportunity to higher learning and advancement. What's wrong with that?
Your idea involves a certain amount of " Logic and Planning". The government is not capable of any plan that may be good and logical. The logical plan always turns into a political fiasco that kills the concept.
ReplyDeletelove the idea of giving every child a starter fund, hopefully, drunken parents couldn't touch it!
ReplyDeleteWe have to start somewhere NEW. As to parents, as I say, you CANNOT withdraw $$, only add; until child reaches maturity.
