The Emperor Has No Clothes

How do differing views on the following constitute threats to Democracy:  inflation; immigration; electric vs gasoline vehicles?  These issues did not begin with the Biden administration and chances are slim they'll end in a Trump administration.  For the purpose of this well-meaning post, pretend for a moment those troubles don't exist and focus on an imaginary crystal ball.  I'll try to restrain my political rhetoric, so please try to keep an open mind.

It's comical to see DJT replicas, in speech and dress, posing together for the cameras like 10-pins in a bowling alley.  So many shamelessly flipped their former views, screaming, "Weaponization of the Justice Department" and almost spitting the word WOKE at everyday people like me.  We're calling one another Nazis so frequently, the word will eventually lose its punch.  Fearful of losing an opportunity in the next Cabinet, they'll do and say whatever they must to maintain and increase their power, whether it's in our collective best interests or not.

If we no longer have faith in trials at any level, what's the alternative?  I believe that's called lawlessness, which lawmen worked hard to stamp out in the Old West.  I'm not happy about the Supreme Court Justices appointed by Trump and certainly not pleased with the reversal of abortion rights; but I'm not advocating anarchy.

Whether you like SCOTUS decisions or not, NO ONE has the right to threaten and harm those people, their families and property.  If they were smart, they'd make it a point NOT to tell us who voted which way; let us guess.  We shouldn't have to make rules like that but in today's climate I don't think there's much choice.  If Justices become fair game, who's going to want their jobs?

Who thinks it funny when someone's husband gets bashed in the skull with a hammer or son is shot in an ambush a the front door?  Who's laughing about the eight Black men tossed off the American Airlines plane in the worst case of racism I've heard in a long time? (To be fair, I'll even include a Fox News link.)  Who thinks those examples are trivial?  Those smiling'll be the first in line to join the Secret Police, once we have one.  Trump's already talked about sending troops through neighborhoods to track down illegals, and we'd better not get in their way if we know what's good...

Who will Proud Boys, Skinheads and other crazies listen to if told to stop?  Only one man I can think of, and he prefers to remain silent while stoking the fires.  Are we inadvertently creating our own Hitler Youth?  We know how they view campus protests.  Children can already threaten parents and teachers with police action; forget, "It takes a village."

"Will you accept the election results if Biden wins?

"If it's a fair and transparent election, yes."

Which means they won't; for unless Trump wins, riots will not be limited to the Capitol.

I kept hearing that the jury in the Hush-Money trial was listening intently, seemed to be a good mix of the public and could be impartial; until the verdicts came back unanimously Guilty.  If the Judge's instructions to the jury were so obviously flawed then it should be easy to overturn during the appeal process and we must abide by the new ruling.  But if the verdict stands we need to abide by that as well, it's only fair.

Trump's been threatening everyone he feels has committed some perceived slight against him.  Do you think that will end with those at the top?  You know what's it's like in backwards countries where political dissenters quietly disappear.

What would you say if I was thrown in jail for things I've written in the past, present or possibly future?  Could I freely express my opinions or would that be considered a threat to the country, like criticizing Putin in Russia?

You probably don't believe that could happen, but would you bet your life on it?  If you admired January 6th, you're gonna love what we see in November.  If Donald Trump was a man of honor, he would tell his supporters NOT to go after and harm fellow citizens for any reason on his behalf.

But he won't, and that's truly alarming.  If Donald Trump IS re-elected, I predict the following:

After he's emptied the jails of January 6th 'Patriots' and Rappers for Trump, he'll have room for Democratic leaders, journalists and public figures (think Taylor Swift).  Then, because he'd have to face judicial consequences after he leaves office, he'll work like mad to amend or remove completely the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, limiting the number of terms a President can hold office.  Imagine his first argument:

"They meant three terms in a row - I've had a break between mine."

If that doesn't work, he'll promote his sons as the rightful MAGA successors.

"They still want to muzzle me, but I'll continue fighting for you through Don Jr., Eric and later Baron."

Apparently neither Ivanka nor Jared want to get anywhere near his political aspirations and squirmy cronies this time around.  Indeed, even his wife is nowhere to be seen.  Look to your own family - what does that tell you?

Today it's Jews, Asians and Immigrants receiving the brunt of hatred; tomorrow it'll be Blacks, Latinos...and New Yorkers?  Ask youurself, "Which candidate would more likely make me a target?"

For those reasons,  I believe a vote for Donald Trump is the real threat to Democracy.  I'm not particularly fond of our choices either, but these are the cards we're dealt.  Independents have no chance of winning, everyone knows that, so to throw away your precious card to make a point seems pointless.

So look in that crystal ball and visualize 10 years from now.  Do you see a Democracy or an Autocracy?  I fear incarceration or banishment, for I've got three strikes against me:  a Democrat, a New Yorker by birth and someone who still believes integrity is important.

Please, people - the Emperor has no clothes!
