Let's Not Bother With An Election

Recent news has negatively affected my psyche for over a week.  It was nice, not having the former President constantly in-our-faces for a couple of years.

Despite the facts that he name-calls like a child and is a pathological liar, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Nominated is adored by countless MAGA-Eaters (with a nod to Harry Potter).  I'd like to know what exactly they think he'll accomplish next time in office.

He's not talking about how he's going to battle inflation, poverty and homelessness; address racial and economic injustice; solve the immigration problem humanely; ensure equal protection for ALL Americans; restore faith in our government; you know, stuff like that.  All I hear out of him are bitching about his personal grievances and announcing, with such pride, his latest, lame nickname for someone.  You just know he loves fart jokes.

You hear people say, "He speaks his mind," or, "He says what I think."  That's more than a bit disturbing.

Here's an exaggerated outcry:  "The weaponization of...the Justice Department; the FBI; the Attorney General."   Why isn't the Supreme Court included in that group, talk about double-standards.  Isn't de-funding those agencies the same as de-funding the Police, which Republicans are against, so what's the difference?  According to Kari Lake of Arizona: 'Patriots' in charge (like her, she hopes) will run through the rest of us, guns blazing, to achieve their goals.  How can this rhetoric possibly be OK with any rational person?

People want a mouthpiece because they don't feel they're being heard, that's the argument, right?  If so, what's wrong with trying a different mouthpiece who might actually get something accomplished instead of pulling a George Santos?  There are a number of candidates who hold similar views, but at least they're not advocating a Crown and Sceptre for the next incumbent.

Out of curiosity, I've been watching CNN Town Halls with the GOP candidates, and so far I'm rooting for Chris Christie, I'm sure I'm not alone among Democrats.  For one thing, as someone from New Jersey, I understood everything he said and loved his inflections.  I certainly don't agree with everything he stands for, but he made a lot of sense; and I'm looking forward to watching the Trump vs Christie match on TV.  As for the rest of them, it's hard to tell whether they're stomping for themselves or for Trump.

The Republican field continues to grow but I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that our worst nightmare will prevail.  I don't think Christie will be the party favorite, for he probably turns off a good portion of the population, mostly in the middle of the country.  That's what kills me, and this is from personal experience:  so many people find East Coasters (New Yorkers in particular) too abrasive; yet they love Donald Trump.

You just know he'll viciously go afte other heads of state who he feels 'disrespected' him; and chummy up to our favorite foes:  Russia, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia - no, wait, he's already in the PGA/LIV merger up to his golf balls.  His political rivals will hide or flee as our democracy morphs into an autocracy.  People will start disappearing.  You scoff, but this sort of thing doesn't happen overnight.  We might not have the SS, but we've got the Proud Boys, who'll be more than happy to knock on your door.

The 2024 election is a Lose-Lose situation, tell me I'm wrong.  If ANY Democratic candidate wins the election, Republicans will cry Election Fraud and the nation will be further torn apart.  However, if the Republican wins, faith in the election process will return; but for how long?  Will it always depend on which party wins?  Remains to be seen.

So here's my suggestion:  Let's forget all about the 2024 election.  If Trump doesn't get into the White House this time, he'll keep trying until he does.  He wants his second 4 years; certainly feels he deserves at least that long; but I doubt my constitution can hold out until he's in the ground.

LET'S GET IT OVER WITH

He'll make SUCH a mess of things, which we'll start recovering from once he's gone.  And not only will Trump be ousted, he'll take along the Taylor-Greenes and Jordans, thank God.

During the 2020 election, the combined dollar amount spent by Republicans and Democrats was 14.4 billion, the most expensive ever; and 2024 will likely be higher.  We have a population of roughly 337 million.  That comes to about $41 each; but if we leave out the 22 million Millionaires and 1000 Billionaires, it increases to $46 each.  Don't worry about those Mills-and-Bills, they'll be well cared for once Trump's back in office.

That's hardly enough for a decent trip to the grocery store, so let's be magnimious and imagine what we could do with all that money if we skip the election but keep the Donor's money, it was always a gamble for them:

1)  Young people are worried about having Social Security when it's their turn.  How far could 15 billion go?

2)  How about help to Perryton, Texas, which was devastated by Thursday's tornado.  Whatever's left can go towards another needy community, in Florida?

3)  Purchase 1 million Tiny Homes for our homeless, they're reusable.

4)  Pay off how many Student Loans and Mortgages?  I can't comprehend 15 billion dollars.

The only way to prevent this scenario is for Republicans to overwhelmingly choose another candidate, then hopefully Donald will slink off to Mar-a-Lago, be soothed by sycophants and mellow with age.

Imagine him attending some significant event along with all the former Presidents; where they seem to like one another, or at least act like they do.  Doesn't that give you warm fuzzies, like there's hope for America - a continuity in our collective lives?

But instead of sulking alone, Trump has changed his ways; so like Scrooge, spends the rest of his days making amends.

What have I been smoking?

  1. You're much too magnanimous to refer to his privates as golf balls!

I doubt very much he'll stand up against Christie--if you notice, when he's in an uncomfortable position, he crosses his arms across his chest to shield himself from his adversaries. He assumes (rightfully so?) that avoiding a debate will protect his image and not much influence his ridiculous adulation by the ignoramuses.

  2. Wanted to post this Anonymous thought:
"Wouldn't it be great if some Billionaire purchased 500 tiny homes for every city having a homeless issue. I guess he/she would have to purchase the land to put them on as so many people have the NIMBY attitude!!! Every village would have social workers and psychologists and a health center !! Talk about DREAMING!!!!!"
